UFC on Fox 27 Bonuses: ‘Jacare,’ Dober, Camacho, Bektic Receive $50K Awards
The 38-year-old former Strikeforce champion re-established himself as a top contender in the middleweight division — and received a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus in the process — as he knocked out Derek Brunson in the first-round of the UFC on Fox 27 main event on Saturday night. A head kick and two follow-up blows brought an end to the bout at the 3:50 mark of round one, giving “Jacare” his second career victory over Brunson.
Elsewhere, Drew Dober and Frank Camacho garnered “Fight of the Night” honors and $50,000 apiece for their entertaining welterweight scrap. The pair combined to land 251 significant strikes during the three-round affair, with Dober ultimately emerging with a unanimous decision victory.
Finally, Mirsad Bektic captured a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” check thanks to his emphatic finish of Godofredo Castro in a preliminary featherweight affair. When Castro attempted to throw a knee, the 26-year-old prospect blasted the Brazilian with a right hand to the body. “Pepey” slumped to the ground after absorbing the blow, bringing an end to the contest 2:47 into round one.
