A bantamweight showdown between John Albert and Yaotzin Meza has been booked for UFC on Fox 8, promotion officials announced Thursday evening.
UFC on Fox 8 takes place July 27 at Seattle’s Key Arena and is headlined by a flyweight title conflict pitting Demetrious Johnson against John Moraga. The evening’s main card airs live on Fox’s flagship network and will also see Rory MacDonald collide with Jake Ellenberger in a pivotal welterweight affair.
Albert, 26, has lost three straight fights heading into his showdown with Meza, most recently submitting to a Scott Jorgensen rear-naked choke this past December at UFC on Fox 5. Prior to that setback, “Prince” was finished by Ivan Menjivar and Erik Perez, resulting in a 0-3 record for the bantamweight last year.
Meza, meanwhile, has lost two of his last three contests, including a December Octagon debut in which he was knocked out by former title contender Chad Mendes at UFC on FX 6. Prior to that stretch, the Arizonan had won six straight fights dating back to July 2010.
