UFC on Fox 9 Weigh-In Results: Johnson, Benavidez Cleared for Rematch

Demetrious Johnson had to figure he would see Joseph Benavidez again.

Johnson tipped the scales at 125 pounds, as he prepares to defend the Ultimate Fighting Championship flyweight crown against Benavidez (125) in the UFC on Fox 9 main event on Saturday at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, Calif. Bantamweight co-headliners Urijah Faber (135) and Michael McDonald (135.25) also met their mandated weight requirements without issue at Friday’s official weigh-in.

A Matt Hume protégé spawned by the AMC Pankration camp, Johnson will carry a four-fight winning streak into the cage. “Mighty Mouse” last appeared at UFC on Fox 8 in July, when he submitted John Moraga with a fifth-round armbar at Key Arena in Seattle. Johnson, who has compiled a 6-1-1 record since arriving in the UFC, captured the flyweight crown with a split decision over Benavidez in September 2012. In 21 professional appearances, the 27-year-old Madisonville, Ky., native has never been finished.

Benavidez, meanwhile, has rattled off three consecutive victories. The Team Alpha Male standout last fought at UFC Fight Night 28 in September, when he wiped out Jussier da Silva with a knee to the body and follow-up punches at Jornalista Felipe Drumond Stadium in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The 29-year-old San Antonio native owns a 6-1 mark inside the UFC, where he has established himself as one of the world’s premier flyweights. All three of Benavidez’s losses, one to Johnson and two to bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz, have come by decision.

UFC on Fox 9 “Johnson vs. Benavidez 2” -- which airs live on Fox at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT -- will also feature a featherweight scrap pairing Chad Mendes (145) with American Top Team’s Nik Lentz (145) and a lightweight tilt pitting Joe Lauzon (155) against “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 6 winner Mac Danzig (155).

Three hours prior, Fox Sports 1 will carry six preliminary bouts: Court McGee (169.5) vs. Ryan LaFlare (170), Danny Castillo (155) vs. Edson Barboza (155), Bobby Green (155) vs. Pat Healy (155), Scott Jorgensen (124.5) vs. Zach Makovsky (125), Sam Stout (154) vs. Cody McKenzie (155) and Abel Trujillo (155) vs. Roger Bowling (155). The lone remaining undercard matchup will stream to the UFC’s Facebook page at 4:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. PT, as Shooto, Strikeforce and Dream veteran Darren Uyenoyama (125) welcomes Turkish newcomer Alp Ozkilic (125) to the Octagon.
