UFC on Fox Bonuses: Cigano, Henderson, Guida, Lamas Bank $65K

Junior dos Santos, Benson Henderson, Clay Guida and Ricardo Lamas each took home post-fight bonuses worth $65,000 after Saturday’s inaugural UFC on Fox event.

Dos Santos was awarded “Knockout of the Night” for his heavyweight title-winning performance against Cain Velasquez, while featherweight Lamas took “Submission of the Night” with his second-round win over fellow WEC vet Cub Swanson. Henderson (Pictured, file photo) and Guida shared “Fight of the Night” honors following their hard-fought, three-round lightweight co-main event at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

Dos Santos wasted no time in ending the championship reign of Velasquez, knocking out the American Kickboxing Academy standout in just 64 seconds. The champion and challenger traded feelers for the bout’s opening seconds until dos Santos put the hammer down, catching Velasquez behind the ear with an overhand right and following him to the canvas to pound out the victory.

Lamas and Swanson engaged in a relatively even opening frame, though Swanson appeared to get the better of many of standup exchanges. Lamas would find his opening in the second round, however, locking up a slick arm-triangle choke and forcing Swanson to tap out at the 2:16 mark.

Henderson and Guida lived up to the considerable expectations placed on them prior to their No. 1 contender’s bout. Though Henderson got the better of most of the exchanges, Guida proved why he is considered one of the gamest fighters in the sport, battling to the end and even threatening with a guillotine choke late in the third round. Henderson’s night would not be spoiled, however, and the former WEC champion will now face Frankie Edgar for the UFC belt in 2012.
