UFC to Hold Fight Night Event in South Dakota on July 13

The Ultimate Fighting Championship will hold its first-ever event in South Dakota on July 13.

UFC President Dana White revealed the news to Argus Leader Media at Resurrection Fighting Alliance 37 on Friday night, and the Las Vegas-based promotion confirmed the date and location on Saturday.

UFC Fight Night will take place in Sioux Falls, S.D., at the Denny Stanford Premier Center and air on Fox Sports 1. Bouts for the card will be announced at a later date.

Less than three years ago, South Dakota did not even have a sanctioning body to regulate combat sports events in the state. In February 2013, the South Dakota House of Representatives approved a bill to create an athletic commission. While combat sports were previously legal before that legislation passed, no sanctioning body led to numerous issues regarding pre-fight physicals, on-site medical personnel and post-fight suspensions, among other things.

Since then, RFA, a known UFC feeder promotion, has held four events in South Dakota, including Friday’s offering.
