Ulysses Gomez will step in for the injured Ian McCall and make his Octagon debut in a flyweight bout at UFC on Fox 4 against John Moraga.
Promotion officials announced the pairing on Monday afternoon. UFC on Fox 4 takes place Aug. 4 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and features a light heavyweight tilt between Mauricio Rua and Brandon Vera. The event is also expected to include a 205-pound clash pitting Lyoto Machida against Ryan Bader.
Gomez captured the Tachi Palace Fights vacant bantamweight title this past December, submitting Cody Gibson with a guillotine choke at the 2:43 mark of the third frame. A representative of Marc Laimon’s Cobra Kai team, “Useless” has only tasted defeat twice in 11 professional bouts. Seven of the his nine career triumphs have come by way of submission.
Moraga’s lone defeat in 11 appearances came against “TUF 14” winner John Dodson in 2010. The Arizona Combat Sports product has won four straight fights since then, most recently besting Maurice Senters to win the vacant Rage in the Cage bantamweight crown.
