Urijah Faber will meet Francisco Rivera in a bantamweight bout at UFC 181 in Las Vegas.
Ultimate Fighting Championship officials announced the pairing on Wednesday. UFC 181 takes place at Mandalay Bay Events Center on Dec. 6 and features a pair of title tilts, as Johny Hendricks defends his welterweight strap against Robbie Lawler, and Anthony Pettis meets Gilbert Melendez in a 155-pound championship bout.
Faber was slated to face Masanori Kanehara at UFC Fight Night “Hunt vs. Nelson,” but “The California Kid” suffered an undisclosed injury and was forced to withdraw. The former World Extreme Cagefighting featherweight ace has compiled a 7-3 record since joining the UFC in 2011, with his only losses coming in title bouts against Renan Barao (twice) and Dominick Cruz.
Rivera will look to get back to his winning way after suffering a defeat against Takeya Mizugaki at UFC 173. The 33-year-old is known to have great power at 135 pounds, finishing seven of his foes via knockout or technical knockout.
