Ultimate Fighting Championship officials Wednesday confirmed a rumored bantamweight showdown for UFC 175, as Urijah Faber will face Alex Caceres at the July 5 event.
According to a report from ESPN.com, verbal agreements are in place for the matchup, which will be broadcast live on pay-per-view from Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. UFC 175 is headlined by a middleweight title showdown between Chris Weidman and Lyoto Machida.
Faber, 35, saw a four-fight winning streak snapped in his most recent outing, when he suffered a controversial stoppage loss to Renan Barao in their Feb. 1 rematch at UFC 169. Prior to that setback, the former World Extreme Cagefighting featherweight king was perfect last year, notching wins over Ivan Menjivar, Scott Jorgensen and Iuri Alcantara before submitting young gun Michael McDonald on Dec. 14.
Ten years the junior of “The California Kid,” Caceres will step back into the Octagon having won four of his last five fights. “Bruce Leeroy” last competed on Jan. 25, when he upset highly-regarded prospect Sergio Pettis via third-round submission at UFC on Fox 10.
