Veach-Madadi Title Bout Headlines CWFC Debut in Jordan

Matt Veach (Pictured; file photo) will defend his Cage Warriors Fighting Championship lightweight title against Reza Madadi at CWFC “Fight Night 1”, going down June 16 from Le Grand Hotel in Amman, Jordan.

Sherdog.com learned of the bout from CWFC officials on Thursday; they also confirmed five additional contests for the event. The show marks the British promotion’s first trip to the country of Jordan. According to the promotion, fans outside the United States can watch the event for free on the promotion’s Web site, but the stream will be geo-blocked for fans in the U.S.

In a pair of heavyweight clashes, Andreas Kraniotakes takes on Jay Mortimore and Dave Keeley squares off with Joe Bunch. Two additional lightweight confrontations are also scheduled for the event, as Dan Hope locks horns with Jean N’Doye and Patrick Vickers toes the line against Leon Del gaudio. Rounding out the main draw will be a middleweight conflict between Jake Hecht and Michele Verginelli.

Veach looks to rebound from back-to-back defeats in his showdown with Madadi. The American won the CWFC lightweight strap in 2010 while in the midst of a four-fight win streak. That run came to a halt in February, however, as Veach was submitted by Drew Fickett with a first-round armbar at Maximum Fighting Championship 28. Another submission defeat via armbar would follow, as the HIT Squad product was finished by Eric Wisely in April.

Madadi has won his last six contests. The Iranian-born Swede has made noise in Swedish promotion Superior Challenge over the last few years, going undefeated while besting the likes of Junie Allen Browning and Carlo Prater. “Mad Dog” most recently earned a controversial unanimous decision over UFC veteran Rich Clementi at Superior Challenge 7 in April, winning the promotion’s lightweight title in the process.
