A rapidly developing UFC on Fox 3 fight bill received another new addition on Thursday, as promotion officials announced that middleweights Karlos Vemola and Mike Massenzio will clash at the May 5 event.
Vemola originally entered the Octagon as a heavyweight, suffering his first career setback in a 2010 decision loss to Jon Madsen. Dropping to 205 pounds, the Czech-born combatant was impressive in his sophomore UFC effort, steamrolling Seth Petruzelli to close out that year.
However, following a serious mouth infection that placed him on the sideline, “The Terminator” was defeated in his lone in-cage appearance of 2011, falling by decision to debuting Brazilian Ronny Markes at UFC Live 5.
Known as “The Master of Disaster,” Massenzio, 29, has posted a UFC record of 2-4 during his six-fight stint in the UFC. After exiting the promotion following a 2010 loss to Brian Stann, Massenzio answered the UFC’s call and faced light heavyweight Krzysztof Soszynski on short notice this past June.
Following his decision defeat to “The Polish Experiment,” Massenzio was in fine form against Steve Cantwell in October, weathering an early storm from the former WEC champion and earning a hard-fought unanimous decision win at UFC 136. Most recently, however, the New Jersey native was submitted on Jan. 14 by leg lock ace Rousimar Palhares at UFC 142 in Brazil.
