UFC on Fox 17 is just a day away, but apparently Nate Diaz and Michael Johnson can’t wait even that long.
The two lightweights, who are scheduled to meet on Saturday at the Amway Center in Orlando, engaged in a brief scuffle in the fighter hotel room on Friday. Diaz appears to shove Johnson before the two men are separated during the encounter, which according to a report from MMAFighting.com, occurred because the fighters kept “walking by each other before medicals.”
UFC welterweight Tamdan McCrory, who faces Josh Samman in a preliminary contest on Saturday, posted a video of the incident to his Instagram account.
“I have heard about this happening but I didn’t believe it until I saw it with my own eyes,” McCrory wrote.
Diaz and Johnson will square off during the UFC on Fox 17 main card. Diaz hasn’t competed in approximately one year, when he lost to current lightweight king Rafael dos Anjos at UFC on Fox 13. Johnson, meanwhile, has won four of his last five but is coming off a contentious split-decision loss to Beneil Dariush at UFC Fight Night in Nashville this past August.
