Rousimar Palhares was up to his old tricks in the Fight Nights Global 70 main event on Friday.
The 12-time UFC veteran utilized one of his patented maneuvers — the heel hook — to dispatch Alexei Ivanov in just 37 seconds at the FSK Sports Complex in Ulan-Ude, Buryatia, Russia.
Palhares quickly worked to close the distance in the welterweight contest and found his opportunity when he was able to change levels on an Ivanov jab and secure a takedown. From there, “Toquino” wasted little time transition to the submission. Ivanov attempted to roll out of danger but had no choice but to tap out moments later.
With the victory, Palhares halts a two-fight losing streak. The 37-year-old Brazilian has secured 16 of his 19 career triumphs by way of submission.
