Saunders’ loss to Cote snapped a three-fight winning streak in the Octagon for the “Killa B.” The 33-year-old’s contract expired after the bout, and Saunders revealed on mixedmartialarts.com that a variety of personal issues prevented him from pursuing a new deal at the time.
Volkmann, meanwhile, had won four of his previous six bouts since being released from the UFC in 2013. During that time the Minnesota native has competed for a number of promotions including World Series of Fighting and Legacy Fighting Championship.
