Unbeaten World Extreme Cagefighting featherweight contender
Mackens Semerzier will meet International Fight League veteran
Deividas Taurosevicius in one of the featured bouts at
WEC 46 “Varner vs. Henderson” on Jan. 10 at the Arco Arena in Sacramento, Calif.
WEC officials on Saturday finalized the 10-fight lineup, which features former WEC featherweight kings
Urijah Faber and
Mike Thomas Brown in separate main card matchups.
Semerzier, who burst on the scene with his stunning submission victory against one-time IFL titleholder
Wagnney Fabiano in October, has finished four consecutive opponents inside one round. He caught Fabiano, a Nova Uniao-based Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, in a fight-ending triangle choke at WEC 43. The 29-year-old Semerzier has never gone the distance as a professional.
A former professional rugby player, Taurosevicius has parlayed his durability into a successful mixed martial arts career. The rugged 32-year-old Lithuanian has yet to be finished and holds notable submission victories against
Bart Palaszewski and
Dan Lauzon. Taurosevicius, a BJJ brown belt, has not competed since he outpointed
Javier Vazquez in a controversial split decision three months ago.
Lightweight champion
Jamie Varner will lock horns with interim titleholder
Benson Henderson in the WEC 46 headliner. Anchored at Arizona Combat Sports, Varner will carry a five-fight winning streak into his first appearance in nearly a year. Henderson, meanwhile, has won nine in a row.
