Urijah Faber was worth every penny of his $62,000 haul for WEC 46 “Varner vs. Henderson” on Sunday, according to figures released Monday by the California State Athletic Commission.

The popular Sacramento fighter was instrumental in luring 8,818 attendees (1,827 of which were comped for a $550,215 gross gate) to the Arco Arena and delivered with a third-round submission of Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Raphael Assuncao. Faber’s performance was rewarded with a title shot against featherweight champion Jose Aldo and a $10,000 performance bonus for “Submission of the Night.”

In the evening’s main attraction, Benson Henderson put any doubts to rest by unifying the promotion’s dual lightweight titles against returning champion Jamie Varner. Henderson submitted Varner, who’d been sidelined for a year from hand and eye injuries, with a dynamic guillotine choke midway through the third round. Henderson took home $22,000, while Varner earned $18,000.

Will Campuzano put his best foot forward in the lead-off bout of the night, stirring fans into a frenzy with a barrage of kicks and flying knee attempts on Cody Wheeler over three rounds. Campuzano made $6,000 for his busy performance, while Wheeler earned $3,000. Campuzano and Wheeler also shared “Fight of the Night” honors, each adding $10,000 to their paychecks.

No knockout bonus was distributed.
