WEC 49 Bonuses: Hominick, Jabouin, Grispi, Wineland Earn $10K

By Brian Knapp Jun 20, 2010
After what figures to go down as one of the most memorable fights of 2010, World Extreme Cagefighting officials felt Mark Hominick and Yves Jabouin deserved something extra.

The two featherweight gunslingers pocketed matching $10,000 “Fight of the Night” bonuses in wake of their action-packed encounter, which ended in a second-round technical knockout for Hominick at WEC 49 “Varner vs. Shalorus” on Sunday at the Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Hominick buckled Jabouin with a body shot in the second round, only to find himself on his backside moments later after the Haitian-born Canadian popped him with a clean right hook. Hominick reversed a fatiguing Jabouin from full guard to half mount soon after and finished the fight from there.

Meanwhile, former WEC bantamweight champion Eddie Wineland banked a $10,000 “Knockout of the Night” bonus after he stopped Will Campuzano with a second-round punching barrage to the head and body. Wineland has rattled off three consecutive victories since his submission loss to Rani Yahya in April 2009.

Finally, once-beaten featherweight title contender Josh Grispi earned a $10,000 “Submission of the Night” bonus following his victory over L.C. Davis. Grispi, 21, choked the Sengoku veteran unconscious with a nasty guillotine 2:33 into round one. He has put away eight consecutive opponents inside one round.
