With a championship doubleheader already in tow, World Extreme Cagefighting has put the finishing touches on a rock-solid nine-fight bill for WEC 36 on Sept. 10 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Fla.
The Zuffa-led promotion made official the already widely rumored match between featherweight bangers
Jens Pulver (Pictures) and
Leonard Garcia (Pictures), along with a bout pairing hot lightweight prospect
Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone (Pictures) with former WEC 155-pound champion “Razor”
Rob McCullough (Pictures).
Also confirmed were the promotional debuts for former Oklahoma State University standouts Jake Rosholt and Johny Hendricks.
The two multiple-time NCAA wrestling champions have emerged as coveted prospects under the Team Takedown banner and will look to follow in the footsteps of teammate Shane Roller, who made a successful WEC debut on Aug. 3 with a first-round submission victory over
Todd Moore (Pictures). Rosholt will meet American Top Team standout Danilo Villefort at 185 pounds, while Hendricks takes on a tall order in
Alex Serdyukov (Pictures) in a 170-pound tilt.
Additional undercard action will see Florida grappling standout David Avellan meet rugged veteran
Tim McKenzie (Pictures) in a middleweight affair. Dynamic striker
Ed Ratcliff (Pictures) will take on
Urijah Faber (Pictures) pupil
Danny Castillo (Pictures) at 155 pounds, and, in a battle of former bantamweight title challengers, grappling all-star
Rani Yahya (Pictures) will collide with Pancrase poster boy
Yoshiro Maeda (Pictures).
WEC 36 will be co-headlined by a pair of championship bouts, as Faber defends his featherweight crown against
Mike Thomas Brown (Pictures) and undefeated
Paulo Filho (Pictures) risks his middleweight belt in a rematch against
Chael Sonnen (Pictures).
