A lightweight clash of veterans has been added to the WSOF 11 card, as World Series of Fighting officials recently announced that Melvin Guillard will meet Gesias Cavalcante at the July 5 event.
The show’s location has not yet been announced, but the evening’s main card is slated to air live on NBC Sports Network, highlighted by a lightweight title clash pitting Justin Gaethje against Nick Newell.
Guillard, 31, received his UFC release earlier this year on the heels of a March decision defeat to Michael Johnson. Prior to that setback, “The Young Assassin” saw an October clash with Ross Pearson end in a no-contest after catching the Brit with an illegal knee at UFC Fight Night “Machida vs. Munoz.”
Cavalcante, 30, has won two of his last three, most recently stopping Tyson Griffin in a third-round technical knockout last August at WSOF 4. “JZ” joined the WSOF in 2012, submitting T.J. O’Brien in his promotional debut before coming up short against Gaethje in his sophomore WSOF appearance last year.
