Jake Shields came up short in his bid for the World Series of Fighting welterweight title, and now the grappling specialist could be facing a six-month layoff due to injuries sustained in his bout with Rousimar Palhares.

The Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) on Monday released its list of medical suspensions from WSOF 22, which took place Aug. 1 at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. The show’s main event saw Shields submit to a third-round kimura which Palhares did not immediately release after the fight was stopped by referee Steve Mazzagatti.

According to the NAC, Shields suffered an injury to his right shoulder -- the arm upon which Palhares applied the kimura -- as well as his right knee and will require orthopedic clearance on both before he can fight again. If not medically cleared, Shields will be suspended until Feb. 1, 2016.

Also looking at a potential six-month medical suspension is WSOF bantamweight ace Marlon Moraes, who suffered a nose injury in his successful title defense against fellow Brazilian Sheymon da Silva Moraes. The champion must have his nose X-rayed and cleared by a doctor, or he, too, will be sidelined until February 2016.

Undercard fighters Abubakar Nurmagomedov (right foot) and Gil Guardado (nasal fracture) must also receive medical clearance for their injuries or face six months on the bench.
