The World Series of Fighting will return to Florida for its first event of 2014, when WSOF 8 goes down Jan. 18 from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Fla.

The evening’s televised card airs live on NBC Sports Network and will see an inaugural lightweight champion crowned when Justin Gaethje rematches Gesias Cavalcante in the main event. Immediately prior, the to-be-announced prelims are slated to stream live and free on

Unbeaten in 10 pro outings, Gaethje previously met Cavalcante this past March at WSOF 2, with Gaethje earning a first-round technical knockout victory after opening a deep cut on Cavalcante’s hairline. “JZ” rebounded from the defeat with an August victory, however, stopping UFC veteran Tyson Griffin in the third round of their WSOF 4 encounter.

In the co-headliner, UFC veteran Anthony Johnson will do battle with Strikeforce alum Mike Kyle. “Rumble” and “Mak” were originally expected to collide in the WSOF 7 main event, but that booking was postponed after Kyle broke a toe in training.

WSOF officials additionally revealed that “TUF 18” cast member Cody Bollinger will make his promotional debut at the event opposite fellow bantamweight Tyson Nam, who returns to the decagon for the first time since his March defeat at the hands of Marlon Moraes.
