One of boxing’s most anticipated showdowns is on the cusp of unfolding after years of build up.
Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Gennady “GGG” Golovkin on Friday were greenlit for their middleweight clash, as each man took to the scale at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Golovkin (37-0) was the first of the combatants to register a tally, and he did so in style as he looked to be in excellent shape at 160 pounds even. Next, Alvarez (49-1-1) equaled that weight as well by hitting the middleweight limit of 160.
Golovkin and Alvarez are expected to enter the ring around 11:30 p.m. ET Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Sin City, and Sherdog.com will have live round-by-round updates and scoring. The HBO Boxing Pay-per-View telecast kicks off at a special time of 8 p.m. ET.
