A welterweight bout pitting Siyar Bahadurzada against John Howard has been added to the UFC 168 card, promotion officials recently announced.

UFC 168 takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Dec. 28 and features a middleweight title rematch between Chris Weidman and Anderson Silva. The lineup also includes a women’s bantamweight title showdown between “TUF 18” coaches Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate in the evening’s co-main event.

After beginning his UFC career with a resounding 42-second knockout of Paulo Thiago at UFC on Fuel TV 2, Bahadurzada came back to earth in his second Octagon appearance. The Afghan striker was grounded repeatedly by Dong Hyun Kim en route to losing a three-round verdict at UFC on Fuel TV 8 in March. The 29-year-old Blackzilians representative has earned 17 of his 21 professional wins by knockout, technical knockout or submission.

Howard, meanwhile, made his first UFC appearance in more than two years in August when he captured a split decision triumph over “TUF 17” finalist Uriah Hall. “Doomsday” is now 5-3 overall with the Las Vegas-based promotion, including victories over Tamdan McCrory, Dennis Hallman and Daniel Roberts. The Boston native has won seven of his last eight bouts since his initial UFC release.
