A showdown between welterweight contenders Stephen Thompson and Jorge Masvidal is set for UFC 217 in New York on Nov. 4.
Multiple outlets have confirmed the pairing following an initial report from MMAFighting.com. UFC 217 takes place at Madison Square Garden in New York and is headlined by a middleweight championship tilt between Michael Bisping and Georges St. Pierre.
Thompson recently came up short in two bids to claim 170-pound gold, battling reigning champion Tyron Woodley to a majority draw at UFC 205 before falling to Woodley via majority decision in their rematch at UFC 209. Prior to that “Wonderboy” authored a seven-fight winning streak to earn his shot at the welterweight title.
Masvidal, meanwhile, is coming off a split-decision loss to Demian Maia at UFC 211 on May 13. That snapped a three-fight winning streak for “Gamebred,” who had bested Donald Cerrone, Jake Ellenberger and Ross Pearson in succession inside the Octagon.
