Scottish featherweight Robert Whiteford will step in on a little more than a week’s notice to face Jim Hettes at UFC Fight Night 30.
Whiteford replaces “TUF: Smashes” alum Mike Wilkinson, who recently withdrew from the card due to injury. Promotion officials announced the change on Sunday. UFC Fight Night 30 takes place at the Phones 4U Arena in Manchester on Saturday. The six-bout main card airs on Fox Sports 2, while the preliminary contests stream online.
Whiteford, who splits time between the Dinky Ninjas and American Top Team camps, has tasted defeat just once in 11 bouts. Since falling in his May 2009 pro debut, the 30-year-old Scot has won 10 straight fights, most recently besting Paul Reed at SFC “Reawakening” in June. Whiteford has finished five of his victories by knockout or technical knockout and one via submission.
Hettes returns to the Octagon for the first time since September 2012, when he dropped a unanimous verdict to Marcus Brimage at UFC 152. “The Kid” was victorious in his first 10 professional outings, including UFC triumphs over Alex Caceres and Nam Phan.
