Vitor Ribiero (left) and Justin Wilcox: Rich Hundley III/Strikeforce
A former Shooto and Cage Rage world champion, Ribeiro (155.6) was at one time arguably the sport's top lightweight. However, the jiu-jitsu black belt has dropped three of his last four fights, including his Strikeforce debut at “Heavy Artillery” in May. Ribeiro dropped a contentious split decision to Lyle Beerbohm. Prior to that, the Brazilian lost to world-ranked lightweights Shinya Aoki and Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante. Sitting between those two losses is a TKO victory over Katsuhiko Nagata at Dream 8.
Wilcox (155) is a former collegiate wrestler and professional bodybuilder who made his MMA debut in 2006. The American Kickboxing Academy product is 3-1 in Strikeforce competition and is riding a four-fight win streak heading into his bout with Ribeiro. Nicknamed “The Silverback,” Wilcox owns seven of his nine professional victories by decision.
