Yushin Okami-Alan Belcher Rematch Added to UFC 155 on Dec. 29 in Las Vegas

A middleweight rematch between Yushin Okami and Alan Belcher has been booked for UFC 155, promotion officials announced Thursday night.

UFC 155 takes place Dec. 29 at a to-be-named venue in Las Vegas and is expected to be headlined by a heavyweight championship rematch between reigning belt holder Junior dos Santos and ex-titlist Cain Velasquez. The evening's pay-per-view card will also see Chael Sonnen return to the light heavyweight division to take on former 205-pound pacesetter Forrest Griffin, while middleweight contenders Tim Boetsch and Chris Weidman do battle at 185 pounds.

Okami and Belcher made their Octagon debuts against each other at UFC 62 in 2006, with Okami coming away with a unanimous decision that night. Since that bout, Okami has compiled a 10-4 record with the promotion, unsuccessfully challenging Anderson Silva for the middleweight title at UFC 134 just over one year ago. “Thunder” most recently competed at UFC 150 last month, outpointing Buddy Roberts to rebound from an upset defeat to Boetsch in February at UFC 144.

Belcher, meanwhile, has put together a 9-3 record since his first meeting with Okami. “The Talent” rides a four-fight winning streak heading into his rematch with the Japanese standout, returning from an eye injury this past September to finish Canadian veteran Jason MacDonald at Fight Night 25. Belcher last stepped into the cage on May 5, taking out leg lock specialist Rousimar Palhares at UFC on Fox 3. The American was then scheduled to return to action next month at UFC 153 against Vitor Belfort, but “The Phenom” was pulled from that bout to face light heavyweight king Jon Jones at UFC 152.
