UFC Fight Night 124 is down to 12 bouts after a Zak Cummings injury forced him to withdraw from a proposed welterweight clash against Thiago Alves.
The Las Vegas-based promotion announced the news on Friday night. UFC Fight Night 124 takes place at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis on Sunday and is headlined by a featherweight tilt between Jeremy Stephens and Doo Ho Choi. As a result of the injury, a women’s bantamweight contest between Talita Bernardo and Irene Aldana has been moved from the UFC Fight Pass prelims to the Fox Sports 1 preliminary bill.
Cummings revealed via Twitter that he slipped and hit his head while getting out of the bathtub. He hopes to have his fight with Alves rebooked as soon as he is medically cleared.
I’m absolutely fucking devastated right now. This one of the best cuts I’ve ever had and slipped while moving from the tub to the ground and cracked my fucking skull on a handrail. I’ve missed most of my 3 months olds entire life! You disgust me— Zak Cummings (@ZakCummings) January 13, 2018
I’m in ER now figuring out stitches or staples. CT and everything, I’ll fight Alves a soon as I’m cleared hopefully— Zak Cummings (@ZakCummings) January 13, 2018
Cummings, 33, had been victorious in four of his previous five Octagon appearances. He last appeared at UFC on Fox 24 in April, when he defeated Nathan Coy via first-round submission.
Alves halted a two-fight skid with a decision victory over Patrick Cote in his most recent outing at UFC 210.
