"Neo Samurai" to Fight Page on K-1 Dynamite!!
Monday, December 18, 2006
by Sherdog.com Staff

K-1 and HERO'S parent company Fight Entertainment Group revealed the opponent of Japanese superstar Genki Sudo (Pictures) for the 2006 edition of Premium Dynamite!! on Dec. 31 at the Kyocera Osaka Dome.

Sudo and FEG executive director Sadaharu Tanigawa sat down for a media appearance on Yahoo! Live Chat, streamed streamed live via Yahoo! Japan on Monday. The Japanese fight media, as well as FEG, promoted the streaming interview session with the promise that Sudo's New Year's Eve opponent would be announced.

During the live chat, Tanigawa and Sudo both discussed their outlook on the current card for Dynamite!!, before announcing that Sudo would square off with "Jackson Page." It became clear in the dialogue that "Jackson Page" was a moniker employed by FEG for Greg Jackson-trained fighter Damacio Page (Pictures). Sudo mentioned his opponent's heavily tattooed appearance, while Tanigawa said that Page trains with UFC star Diego Sanchez (Pictures) and is a World Extreme Fighting titleholder.

FEG has used similar renaming of foreign talent recently, as evidenced by HERO'S 154-pound tournament champion Gesias Calvancanti (Pictures) simply being billed as "JZ Calvan."

Page's New Year's Eve contest will not be his first appearance in Japan. The lightweight has fought thrice in Japan this year, taking on Miki Shida (Pictures) in Pancrase this past April, before testing his kickboxing prowess in the rings of Shootboxing, falling to eventual S-Cup 2006 champion Kenichi Ogata in November, and Shootboxing 154-pound champion Hiroki Shishido earlier this month.

Tanigawa also revealed that before the line-up for Dec. 31 is finalized, two more heavyweight K-1 rules matches will be added to the card, making for at least 11 bouts for this year's Dynamite!!.
