Beebe Fails to Show for UWC Weigh-In

Former World Extreme Cagefighting bantamweight champion Chase Beebe
failed to show up at the official weigh-in for Ultimate Warrior
Challenge “Man ‘O’ War” on Friday in Fairfax, Va., according to
event organizers.
Beebe (12-3) was scheduled to meet Mike Easton for the vacant UWC bantamweight title in the show’s main event on Saturday at the Patriot Center. EliteXC and WEC veteran Justin Robbins, based out of the H.I.T. Squad gym run by future UFC hall of famer Matt Hughes, will replace Beebe in the featured bout.
“We are extremely disappointed that Chase failed to show up and
equally frustrated by the way this entire situation has played
out,” said Ultimate Warrior Sports Development CEO Marcello Foran.
“We were aware that he was having trouble cutting weight earlier
this week but never received any official medical documentation
about the severity or extent of an injury that would force him to
pull out of the show, which is required in his contract.”
Beebe missed his Thursday morning flight from Illinois to Washington, D.C., and has not communicated directly with any UWC official to alert them of his decision, according to a release from the promotion. The UWC plans to hold Beebe legally accountable and Virginia’s sanctioning body -- the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation -- appears likely to penalize him.
Through trainer Marc Fiore, Beebe’s camp informed UWC officials on Tuesday that the 24-year-old was having problems making weight because of a knee injury he suffered while training. According to UWC officials, Beebe’s representatives requested the fight be contested at 145 pounds, 10 pounds above their contracted weight limit. A one-pound concession was later granted.
Beebe’s contract with the UWC required him to be medically evaluated by a physician approved by the promotion in the event an injury prevented him from participating. UWC officials began working on a contingency replacement during the middle of the week as a result of their conversations with Beebe’s camp.
Sherdog.com will provide a live stream of UWC “Man ‘O’ War” at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. In the co-main event, International Fight League veteran Jamal Patterson will meet Antwain Britt for the vacant UWC light heavyweight title.
