The Nevada State Athletic Commission has appointed Steve Mazzagatti to referee the interim welterweight title clash between Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit on Feb. 4.
MMA Junkie first reported the news on Wednesday. The NSAC also announced that Patricia Morse-Jarman, Junichiro Kamijo and Cecil Peoples will judge the UFC 143 headliner. Going down from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, the promotion’s traditional pre-Super Bowl card also features a heavyweight tilt pitting Roy Nelson against Fabricio Werdum, a welterweight clash between Josh Koscheck and Mike Pierce and a featherweight tussle between Scott Jorgensen and Renan “Barao” Pegado.

Mazzagatti has refereed more than 250 fights in the UFC, Strikeforce, WEC and EliteXC, according to FightMetric.com. Most recently, he oversaw the Robbie Lawler-Adlan Amagov and Tarec Saffiedine-Tyler Stinson bouts at Strikeforce “Rockhold vs. Jardine” on Jan. 7.
According to FightMetric, Morse-Jarman judged 26 fights in 2011, most recently the Saffiedine-Stinson and Ricky Legere Jr. bouts this past weekend. Kamijo, meanwhile, has scored 25 bouts in 2011, including Na-Shon Burrell-James Terry and Legere Jr.- Spang contests on the last Strikeforce bill. He gave Terry the lone 29-28 card in a split-decision triumph for Burrell.
Peoples, who judged 19 events in 2011, last worked the Strikeforce “Melendez vs. Masvidal” card on Dec. 17, producing a 50-45 scorecard in favor of Melendez in the main event as well as a 29-28 card for K.J. Noons over Billy Evangelista in a lightweight affair.
