Welterweights Krauss, Hathaway to Meet at UFC on Fox 3 in Jersey

A welterweight contest between rising European talents Pascal Krauss and John Hathaway will take place at UFC on Fox 3, promotion officials announced Tuesday.

The 170-pounders have verbally agreed to square off at the May 5 event, which will emanate from the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J. Headlined by a five-round lightweight scrap between Jim Miller and Nate Diaz, the show marks the promotion’s third event to air on Fox’s flagship network and the second of 2012.

Krauss (Pictured) and Hathaway were initially supposed to square off at UFC 138 in October, but Krauss was forced to withdraw from the contest due to a shoulder injury. American Matt Brown answered the call as Krauss’ replacement, but Hathaway was also bitten by the injury bug and withdrew from the event just over two weeks prior.

Hathaway’s most recent Octagon appearance occurred in March, as the Brit narrowly outpointed Kris McCray at UFC Fight Night 24 in Seattle. “The Hitman” owns nine of his 15 career wins by either knockout or submission; his lone defeat -- a 2010 loss to veteran Mike Pyle -- came by way of decision.

Krauss has been on the shelf even longer than his opponent, last competing in November 2010. The German turned away Mark Scanlon in his lone Octagon appearance at UFC 122, outpointing the muscular Brit with a well-rounded attack. The 24-year-old holds seven submission victories to his credit and has yet to taste defeat in his four years as a professional.
