BOBISH'S ULTIMATE CAGE BATTLES RETURNS WITH 'PRIDE & GLORY'
Jan 6, 2011
(PRESS RELEASE) -- Dan Bobish’s Ultimate Cage Battles returns
January 15, 2011 at Ohio Nets Sports Complex in Parma, Ohio with
“Pride & Glory,” a Pro-Am card featuring 16 world-class mixed
martial arts bouts.
The event will be headlined by a 178-pound catchweight bout between two true warriors of the cage. UFC veteran Forrest “The Meat Cleaver” Petz (21-9, Strong Style MMA/Cleveland, OH) will take on former NFL star Herbert “Whisper” Goodman (16-9, HIT Squad/Granite City, IL via Homestead, FL).
Petz, a seven-time UFC competitor, returns to Ohio for the first
time since 2009, and he aims to regain his dominance over the top
fighters in the state. Goodman, who played two seasons for the
NFL’s Green Bay Packers, looks to get back to his winning ways
after a defeat to Bellator Middleweight Champion Hector Lombard in
August. The HIT Squad representative has won six of eight fights
and now fights below 185 pounds for the first time.
In the night’s co-main event, rising middleweight star Brian “The Predator” Rogers (5-2, Strong Style MMA/Cleveland, OH) aims to continue a four-fight knockout streak against West Virginia submission specialist Robert Conner (9-3, Team Coalition/Martinsburg, WV).
Also in action will be top-ranked Ohio heavyweight Jason “The Juggernaut” Riley (9-4, Buckeye MMA/Columbus, OH), as he takes on Tim Sylvia training partner Bobby Brents (6-1, Team Warrior Concepts/Springfield, IL).
Riley, a 6’6”, 245-pound behemoth, is a former NAAFS and IFBL heavyweight champion. The Adrenaline MMA and Strikeforce veteran has taken on the likes of Tim Sylvia and Daniel Cormier and has been one of the state’s best heavyweights for years. Brents, at 5’9” and 265 pounds, will surprise you with his agility and strength. The current Global Cage Fighting heavyweight champion has earned six consecutive victories after losing his professional debut.
A welterweight battle between Tiawan Howard (7-6, Rising Dragon MMA/Cleveland, OH) and Eric “The Monster” Moon (3-3, MASH Fight Team/Hazel Park, MI) will round out the professional portion of the show. Howard, a training partner of Bellator and Strikeforce veteran Torrance Taylor, also has a 20-3 kickboxing record and holds black belt ranks in kaiju kenpo karate and tae kwan do. Moon is a five-time King of the Cage veteran who boasts three knockouts on his record with a combined time of just 121 seconds. The Michigan native trains with UFC and Pride veteran James Lee and faced veteran Charles “Crazy Horse” Bennett in 2009.
A stacked 12-fight amateur card is also on tap, including a 170-pound showdown between Alvin Worrells (4-1) and Andrew Law (6-1).
Bellator welterweight star Chris “The Assassin” Lozano will be a special guest in attendance for this event.
