Boxer Patrick Tessier to Make his Debut
Oct 5, 2010
(PRESS RELEASE) -- Ringside MMA would like to inform fight fans of
recent changes to the card for Ringside 9: Payback, which will be
held on November 13th at the Centre Pierre-Charbonneau in Montreal.
Headlining this event will be a battle for the Ringside
Welterweight title between UFC veteran Jonathan “The Road Warrior”
Goulet against feared veteran striker Chris “The Menace”
Clements.
“Subconsciously, I have always fought for love of fighting and never with the goal of becoming a champion, knowing that I was always in the shadow of my training partner, Georges St-Pierre. With this opportunity to win a title, I find myself motivated now more than ever to perform. I will give one hell of a show!” said Goulet, before offering, “Clements is a fierce striker, and even if some people have doubts in me, I believe in my ability to emerge victorious. I am going back to my roots. My skills in Muay Thai are not in what I am best known. I know I need to protect my chin, which is why I am focusing much of my training on boxing and especially wrestling. Should the opportunity presents itself, I will be prepared to submit Clements.”
Notwithstanding a main event which brings with it the added
dimension of “Quebec vs Ontario”, Ringside continues to deliver the
best in local MMA talent. It is for this reason that Ringside is
proud to announce the addition of another fight to the Payback
card. Yohan Gariepy (1-1) from Team Legion in Victoriaville will
face Samuel Charbonneau from St-Jean-Sur-Richelieu. Gariepy is
coming off his first professional career victory over Benoit
Guionnet, on which he commented in a post fight interview, “My knee
hurts so badly, I can only imagine how bad his [Guionnet’s] head
must feel! I worked so much on my wrestling and I think I have
really improved my takedown defence.” He will no doubt find himself
challenged in that regard once again against as he faces
Charbonneau, who will be making his professional debut. Charbonneau
has been training under the tutelage of former professional hockey
enforcer turned MMA fighter in Steve Bosse of the Ultimate Boss
Fighting in St-Jean. Not only does he train with one of the hardest
strikers in the game, but he has also shown himself to be very well
versed on the ground, which was demonstrated by his fight of the
night performance on the local amateur circuit. This is sure to be
a battle where neither can predict if it will be fought standing up
or on the ground.
Last, but certainly not least, Ringside would like to make a surprise announcement as professional boxer Patrick Tessier has been added to the card. He will be 31 years of age when he makes his professional MMA debut in the 155 pound category. Tessier is undefeated in his last two boxing matches, which consisted of a draw in the first match against Francis Lafreniere, and then a victory in the rematch. Tessier will face Jason Saggo, who was scheduled to match up against Kevin Morin, but he unfortunately suffered a severe injury which will require surgery.
