CCFC 11 'Rush'
(PRESS RELEASE) -- Cage Combat FC invades San Francisco with CCFC
11 “RUSH” on Saturday July 18th at historic Kezar Pavilion. For the
first time Cage Combat will be holding an event in San Francisco.
“San Francisco has a long storied fight history and we’ve had our
eye on the City for some time”, says promoter Todd
Middendorp. On tap for that night will be two title fights plus
10 fights featuring local upcoming fighters in Cage Combat FC.
In the main event current Welterweight Champion Jeremiah Metcalf (10-7) will make his 2nd title defense against local undefeated #1 contender Ky Hollenbeck (4-0). Metcalf is undefeated, (3-0) in Cage Combat and is coming off a quick submission win over veteran Brian Warren at Rumble in the Park II. Last year he captured the title with a 2nd round submission over former champ James Terry (6-1). Says Middendorp, “This fight is going to be an all out war, Metcalf has excellent standup and has some of the most feared kicks in the business.” Hollenbeck has fought for Cage Combat exclusively in his MMA career and has moved up in competition with every fight. In February, Hollenbeck destroyed previously unbeaten AKA fighter Pat Minihan (6-1) with a rear naked choke. Besides being an undefeated MMA fighter he’s also an undefeated Muay Thai Champion with wins over undefeated Strikeforce fighter Billy Evangalista. “What makes Hollenbeck dangerous is he can knock you out on his feet and is equally dangerous on the ground”, states Middendorp.
In the Co-Main event Heavyweight Champ Buddy Roberts (6-1) takes on local fighter John Devine (4-1). Roberts will defend his belt that he won from Rick Cheek (4-4) last year for the 2nd time. Roberts has won his last 3 fights by submission, all by rear naked choke. Roberts recently tried out for the latest season of The Ultimate Fighter show and made it through the entire tryouts only to be told by producers he wasn’t “controversial” enough. Roberts will be defending his belt against local collegiate wrestler Devine. Devine has used his wrestling background to take down fighters and ground and pound them into submission. “Both these guys are huge heavyweights tipping the scales close to 250lbs, but what makes these heavyweights different is that they posses excellent ground skills. Devine uses his wrestling background to take his opponent s to the ground while Roberts uses his brute strength.”
For the 2nd straight card Cage Combat FC will feature local female fighters, scheduled to appear is Emily Thompson (3-1) and Jamie Seaton (0-1). Middendorp comments, “It’s always hard to have female fights for the simple fact that they’re few and far between and when you do have a female fighter it’s hard to find an opponent in the same weight class and experience. So to have two in the same weight class and are local make it even better” Thompson is coming off a tough decision lost to Erin Toughill (9-1) at PFC 12 in May. Thompson trains in Santa Rosa with UFC veteran Dave Terrell at NorCal Fighting Alliance, a product of Alaska where she had her first two fights this will be her 3rd fight in California and first local fight. Seaton made her pro-debut at Cage Combat’s last show against EliteXC veteran Kat Alandale (4-3). Seaton and Thompson were originally scheduled to fight each other last year so this fight has been a long time in the making.
