Cage Bout Confirmed for HEX Fight Series 2 on March 14 – VIC Cage Ban Lifted

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Melbourne – It has been confirmed today by the Victorian Sports Combat Board that a seven year ban of cage fighting in Victoria, put down by the Brumby Government in 2008, has finally been lifted by the Labor Government. The next promotional Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event is scheduled for March 14th at The Pavilion in Melbourne, hosted by HEX Fight Series.

Charles Fernandez, Promoter for HEX FS, is ecstatic about the news, announcing that their upcoming event, to be held in less than two weeks’ time, will proudly feature the very first cage bout in Victoria since the ban has been lifted. “We have waited a long time for this ban to be lifted! It’s an exciting time for MMA in Victoria right now and both fighters and enthusiasts alike will truly benefit from this change.”

Unlike boxing and kickboxing, MMA fighters almost always engage in wrestling, grappling and ground fighting (Jiu Jitsu). When these skills are put to work inside a roped ring, rather than a fenced-in enclosure, fighters can be subjected to serious injuries sustained outside the enclosed sporting arena. “Being the very first to host a caged event is a massive win for HEX FS”, Fernandez notes. “We were so thrilled to have Royce Gracie joining us, but to also have the approval to use a cage? Well, that simply creates a safer and more entertaining environment for everyone.”

In preparation for their March 14 spectacular, the team at HEX FS is moving quickly to ensure that the finest and safest equipment is obtained for the night. Fernandez adds, “We want to protect our fighters, and ensuring that they have the best facility to fight in is paramount.”

Weigh-ins for the signed fighters will occur the night prior to the event (Friday 13th March) at the Union Hotel in Ascot Vale at 5pm.

Don’t miss this opportunity to miss a little bit of history take place, because the night will definitely be a sell-out. All ringside tickets at the Melbourne Pavilion have already been sold for this highly anticipated event. Media passes will be available for advanced bookings and further information can be provided on request.

The first cage fight in Victoria will happen. Gracie will be there… will you?
