(PRESS RELEASE) -- It’s hotting up as Stacked Cage Contender card
ready to rock the capital!!
WOW!! Cage Contender has revealed another massive line up when it returns to Dublin on 23 July 2011. The promotion currently boasts the largest broadcast footprint in European MMA spanning some 74 countries and in the week it signed its first contract with SKY SPORTS has shown why it sells more tickets than any other promotion on the Island.
Topping the bill at the 3500 capacity National Basketball Arena is
145lbs Champion "Rowdy" Owen Roddy (MMA 8-3-0/CC 1-0-0) the man who
has not lost since 2008. Roddy won the featherweight strap with a
near brutal slaying of Welsh veteran Shane Thomas in Belfast at the
end of 2010. Facing Roddy will be the formidable Benjamin "Son of
Life" Davis (MMA 6-1-0/CC 1-0-0). The flamboyant Davis is coming of
a win by head kick KO in his eliminator fight at CC8 where he was
deemed a worthy challenger for Roddy's home town defense. While
Davis has been complementary of Roddy in the run up Roddy has made
no secret that he can’t see Davis troubling him at any range and
that he won’t be letting it get anywhere near the judges.
Chief support is another Title fight, this time it's the middleweights and this time it's personal..... When 185lbs Champion Chris "The Killing" Fields (MMA 7-3-0/CC 3-0-0) was leaving the octagon at CC9 his now challenger John "Wrecking Machine" Redmond rose from the crowd to taunt the champion that he would be taking his crown when they meet. Fields is an excellent technical fighter but the wrecking machine has KO power in both hands. The massive war of words has continued with the emergence of a Redmond training video in which he is beating a bag with Fields’ SBG logo on the front of it. SBG have reacted with anger, making it very clear that they will make Redmond pay in the cage for the insult, in reply a cool Redmond quipped “It’s Business”
The undercard is stacked with some of the hottest talent Irish MMA has to offer who are all clambering to get on a Cage Contender card. This has been called by many on the Irish scene as the best fight card on the Island for a while.
