Can the ‘TUF Killer’ terminate ‘The Serial Killer’?

Jul 27, 2009
(PRESS RELEASE) -- The superfight for MFC 22: Payoff has been set with Jason MacDonald (21-12) slated to do battle against Travis “The Serial Killer” Lutter (9-5) in a middleweight showdown.

The fight will co-headline the card scheduled for Friday, October 2 at the River Cree Resort and Casino, and it will be shown live across North America on HDNet Fights.

“This is a mega-fight – the best matchup and exactly the fight we wanted for our fans,” said MFC Owner/President Mark Pavelich. “Both MacDonald and Lutter are tremendous competitors with great skills, and I think there is a grudge building up between them.

“I’ve spoken to Jason personally about this fight and I can tell from his demeanor that he has some bad intentions for Lutter. Frankly, it has been very rare throughout his career to hear Jason talk like this so it’s easy to tell that he is gearing up for it. And I know from Lutter’s camp that he is primed for this big opportunity. We couldn’t ask for anything more in setting up this clash.”

Long known as “The Athlete,” MacDonald picked up a new nickname by taking out former reality show stars Ed Herman and Chris Leben.

MacDonald was dubbed the “TUF Killer” for those blazing-hot submission victories, and he followed it up later on with a dominating ground-and-pound stoppage of Rory Singer. Once more MacDonald will get to prove himself against a “TUF” fighter, although this time around it will be against a “TUF” champion.

Lutter, who fights out of Dallas, Texas, has fought a who’s who of top middleweights during his career including arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world Anderson Silva. Other notable fights on his resume include a decision loss to current MFC light heavyweight champion Trevor Prangley, a convincing submission win over the MFC’s first-ever champion, middleweight star Patrick Cote, and a knockout victory over MFC light heavyweight gatekeeper Marvin Eastman.

In addition to his wins over Herman, Leben, and Singer, MacDonald has mustered some impressive wins over Joe Doerksen and Jason Lambert.
