Will Jordan Parsons “The Pretty Boy” (7-0) return to Minnesota with
a championship belt? These questions will be answered definitively
at CFA 05. Also featured on the card is a battle of two of the best
bantamweights on the east coast, Ralph Acosta and Jarrod Card.
CFA’s Tournament format has created an environment and an opportunity for the best unbeaten talent in the country to compete to find out who will be the next young superstar to burst on to the MMA scene. CEO Jorge de la Noval is adamant when he say’s “there are no easy fights in the CFA”. “The tournament format insures that the best fighter wins and continues to fight the best as the tournament progresses.” What awaits the winner of the featherweight tournament is a championship belt, a $20000 tournament win bonus and exposure which has no price tag. Just ask the winner of the inaugural lightweight tournament Yosilandy Izuierdo about exposure; within weeks of his tournament victory he was called by the UFC.
The Main event features one of Miami’s hottest featherweight prospects versus a Minnesota invader who brings with him seven victories and zero defeats. Danny “The Columbian Warrior” Chavez is the hometown favorite training out of Miami powerhouse gym MMA Masters. This gym has produced two XFC champions in Pablo Alfonso and Luis Palomino. Jordan Parsons pedigree is just as impressive, a product of Minnesota Combat Sports which has produced UFC champions Sean Sherk and Brock Lesnar. These two fighters make up a potential can’t miss epic fight as both are as well rounded as any two young fighter in the world of MMA today.
The co-main event pits two fighters who will be battling for the right to call themselves the best bantamweight in the region. Jarrod Card is a veteran with a 12-5-1 record who is making the move down from featherweight. During his run at featherweight Jarrod has fought two WEC veterans in Jeff Bedard and Chris Manuel, recording a win and a draw for his efforts. The man standing across the cage from him February 24th will mirror him in big fight experience. Ralph Acosta brings a gaudy resume into the cage, with internationally known names notched onto his belt Cards credential will not make Acosta blink. This fight will be a grappling fans dream; Card has some of the most effective and innovative grappling for mixed martial arts today. His rival Acosta, was a colligate wrestling all-American at Upper Iowa University and has five rear naked choke victories over top-flight competition on his mantel.
