(PRESS RELEASE) -- The Warrior Promotions-managed fighter Dan Hope
(8-3-0) returns to action next month when he faces Jonatan Westin
(3-1-0) from Sweden at Scottish Fight Challenge 5: Rivals on
December 3 at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow.
This contest will be for the SFC welterweight title which was recently vacated by Steven Ray, who travels to Las Vegas next month to try out for the UFC ‘Ultimate Fighter’ reality TV show.
Hope, who trains out of the Griphouse Gym in Scotland, is a member
of the famous Dinky Ninja Fight Team and trains with the likes of
Cage Warriors bantamweight champion and TUF 14 cast member Paul
McVeigh.
Despite being just 25-years-old, the Englishman has a long background in Thai Boxing and made the switch to MMA back in 2007, where he racked-up an impressive amateur record of 5-1-7 before turning professional the following year.
He then increased his record to 7-1 with TKO wins over Joe Nugent and Chris Carmichael, before being defeated by the powerful Rashid Magomedov in Sochi, Russia.
Although he lost via KO, Hope managed to finish 2010 on a high by ending the unbeaten record of top Scottish welterweight Steven Ray by technical submission via armbar at the Honour 4 show in Aberdeen.
However, work commitments have plagued Hope’s 2011 schedule, which has only seen him compete in June of this year when he was stopped in round 3 of his Cage Warriors debut against the unbeaten Frenchman Jean N’Doye in a lightweight bout. The contest earned praise from critics and fans alike and led CFWC director Graham Boylan to name the bout ‘Fight of the Night’.
Now, as the year draws to a close, Hope looks to get back to winning ways when he takes on the promising 21-year old-Swedish fighter who makes his third appearance on UK soi, having gone 1-1 on his two previous visits.
Known for his impressive amateur background that saw him win 12 of 15 bouts on the unpaid circuit, Westin lost his pro debut against the heavy-hitting north-east fighter Rob "Robocop" Mills at Bushido Challenge in December 2009.
Since then, the Swedish starlet has won three-in-a-row inside the distance, which included a notable win over the Finnish prospect Kai Puolakka (7-2) in August 2010 at Vision FC in Karlstad.
Last time out, the Stockholm Shoot team member tapped out Richard Griffin inside a round in their bout at World FC in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire.
Despite his age, Westin has been involved in Martial Arts for most of his life, having trained in both Judo and Goshindo as a child before turning to MMA just over three years ago.
Currently training at Stockholm Shoot, the Swedish fighter will look to secure his third win of the year and will be a tough test for the Scottish-based Englishman when they face off for the SFC Title next month.
Also on the card is Dan Hope’s team-mate and fellow Warrior Promotions-managed client Alan McCauley (4-4-0), who makes his return to action in a 75 kg catchweight bout against Phil Flynn (6-5-0) from Manchester Predators.
