ULTIMATE FIGHTING CHAMP STICKS UP FOR ANIMALS IN NEW PETA AD

Mac Danzig (Pictures) Urges Fans to Do Themselves a Favor and Kick the Meat Habit

Los Angeles - With gloved fists raised and standing next to the tagline `I Am a Fighter in the Best Shape of My Life. I Am Mac Danzig (Pictures), and I Am a Vegetarian,` Ultimate Fighting welterweight champion Mac Danzig (Pictures) appears in a brand-new PETA testimonial ad. At 155 pounds of pure fighting fury, Danzig is tough enough in the ring, but when it comes to animal abuse, the 27-year-old Danzig-who is vegan-takes no prisoners.

`Animals on factory farms and in slaughterhouses don`t have a fighting chance,` says Danzig, who forced his opponent, Tommy Speer, into submission using a rear naked choke just two minutes and one second into the first round of the championship match last month. `I don`t eat animals because I don`t want to contribute to their suffering-it`s that simple. Do yourself a favor, do the planet a favor, and help end animal abuse. Go veg.` Danzig got his shot at the crown by prevailing over his competitors on Spike TV`s Ultimate Fighting Championship.

The ad-which is available in both print and video versions-can be viewed at PETA.org or by clicking here.

Why is a vegan diet the diet of champions? Consumption of meat and other animal products has been conclusively linked to heart disease, strokes, diabetes, and obesity. Meat production is also a leading cause of greenhouse gas emissions, water pollution, and land degradation. And, of course, the best way to fight the cruelty of factory farms and slaughterhouses is to kick the meat habit.

Mac Danzig (Pictures) was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and moved to Los Angeles in 2002 to pursue full-time training as a fighter. Danzig is also a mixed martial arts instructor, an avid photographer, and a naturalist.

The ad is part of a new series of PETA vegetarian testimonials that star a growing list of celebrities, including Alicia Silverstone, Forest Whitaker, Casey Affleck, James Cromwell, and Joss Stone.
