EFC AFRICA 08: Fight Card Released

(PRESS RELEASE) -- In just under a month, African MMA history will be made thanks to EFC AFRICA 08. Three title fights plus many established fan favourites are sure to provide action of mythic proportions.

The main event pits Garreth ‘Soldierboy’ McLellan (5-1) against Jacques ‘Law and Order’ Joubert (9-6) for the EFC AFRICA middleweight title. Joubert’s first EFC AFRICA fight taught him the dangers of being a one-dimensional fighter, and he responded by evolving into a capable all-rounder. Having previously faced some of the country’s top fighters at light heavyweight, Joubert’s cut to middleweight has created a faster, more explosive athlete that hasn’t lost a fight since. Look out for Joubert’s aggressive style showcasing powerful kicks and vicious elbows.

McLellan, on the other hand, is undoubtedly EFC AFRICA’s most recognisable fighter. Known as much for his signature beard as for his devastating ground ‘n pound, McLellan’s reputation makes him the perfect candidate for a title shot. Undefeated at EFC AFRICA, McLellan seems unstoppable and, with a fight record backed up by some of EFC AFRICA’s most memorable knockouts and a formidable ground game, Soldierboy has the weapons to make this a war!

Two more title fights top the bill: Adam Speechly (11-1) goes up against Nolan Swanepoel (3-1) for the welterweight title, while Wentzel Nel (7-2) seeks to defend his lightweight title against Costa Ioannou (2-0). 12 fights have been confirmed so far, with a 13th still a strong possibility. Africa’s premier mixed martial artists are fighting just to get onto this ground breaking card!

Tickets have been selling extremely well, both for the live event at Carnival City and for the live broadcast to Nu Metro cinemas across South Africa.
