EFC MMA Returns to North Jersey on April 23

(PRESS RELEASE) -- The Darwish Brothers of Knockout Promotions Boxing and Extreme Fighting Championships (EFC) are throwing their second event of 2011 in the popular Mixed Martial Arts series ‘Extreme Fight Challenge’. The promotion’s highly anticipated sequel to their last event, Extreme Fight Challenge II, will be coming to North Jersey April 23rd, 2011 in Fairfield. This action packed card will showcase some of the area’s best new rising Mixed Martial Arts stars. There are 16 exciting bouts scheduled featuring top talent at several different weight classes in this officially sanctioned MMA card.

One of the most talented strikers in his weight class, Brian “Fury” Gil also possesses sound submission skills on the ground. He is coming off of a tough three round war in his debut at Extreme Fight Challenge I against James “The Outlaw” Argott in which he won the bout by unanimous decision. This time around Gil is slated to face Jaren Williams a tough MMA fighter from Team Coalition. “Training has been going really well the past month. We are really turning it up in the training camp and getting ready for anything. The strategy is to come out strong and finish early,” says the scrappy Paterson NJ native. His opponent Williams is a 125 pound powerhouse currently holding a 2-1 record in the cage. He is looking to give Gil the first blemish of his promising career.

In another interesting matchup, James “The Outlaw” Argott is determined to come out on top and make up for his last controversial loss against fellow competitor Brian “The Fury” Gil. James is known for his work ethic in the cage and a “take no prisoners” attitude. This time around he will be facing Max Garcia, from Westchester Fight Club. Max is a wrestler and Muay Thai kickboxer who is in for a real challenge making his MMA debut that night against The Outlaw. “I learned a lot from the last match and have just been tightening up the details in my striking and wrestling,” says Argott. “I’m just taking it one fight at a time until I get to that title.”

“This next event will prove to be just as exciting as the last event!” says Hani Darwish EFC fight promoter and matchmaker. “We’ve been getting an unbelievable response from the fighters, the media, and the fans asking when the next show will be! We are back April 23rd at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Fairfield with a second action packed MMA card loaded with up and coming local talent.”

Also slated for that evening is the highly anticipated MMA debut of Newark’s own Ashure “The Lionheart” Elbanna from Team EFC MMA. Elbanna is known for having a punishing ground game with ‘sledgehammer’ striking. “We’ve really been pushing hard as far as conditioning and technique for this fight camp. We are working hard on our wrestling explosiveness and punching power for this matchup, says the tenacious Palestinian fighter from the Brick City. Elbanna has been training hard in jiujitsu and boxing in preparation for this fight against Eddie Ramos from Team Endgame in Lodi. Ramos is a freestyle fighter who is also debuting that evening and looks to make an impact in the welterweight division on the 23rd.

Zayd Ileiwat is coming off of an exciting come from behind finish over his last opponent. Zayd is a high level grappler with heavy hands which was proven in his last outing. Ileiwat was losing considerably on the judges scorecards as he was being handled by his larger opponent at will. Near the end of the round however Zayd turned up the heat with a powerful flurry of punches to knockdown his opponent and then pounced to seal the deal with a guillotine choke for the victory. Zayd looks to maintain his undefeated record against Danny Massa from Asylum Fight Team. Danny is a well rounded fighter who trains Burmese boxing and grappling at Phil Dunlap’s Asylum Fight Camp. Danny is training hard to avenge his last loss and build a name in this talent laden division.

“Everybody knows that we pick some of the best matchups in MMA so every bout has the potential to be explosive!” says Wally Darwish, the organization’s president and long-time New Jersey fight promoter.

Coming off of a devastating 13 second knockout win in his last matchup, Paterson’s own Moone Aburoumi looks to continue his winning ways at Extreme Fight Challenge 2. He is slated to face off against Dulani Turner, a durable 185 pounder out of Wolfpack MMA in New York. Moone, fighting out of the EFC Fight Camp, is the heavy hometown favorite and is planning on not disappointing his fans. “I’ve been working on my striking and conditioning for this fight. I’m trying to really finish this guy quickly but I’m also prepared to go the full distance against him,” says the gritty EFC fighter. Duani Turner is a relentless brawler that likes to stand and exchange so Aburoumi should have his hands full in this bout that promises to be nothing short of fireworks.

Several different fight teams will be represented on the card that night so tickets are selling fast and are expected to sell out quickly. Some of the fight teams that are participating include Gold Team from Newark NJ, Team Endgame from Lodi NJ, Team Edson Carvalho from Paterson, Phil Dunlap’s Asylum Fight Team, Westchester Fight Club out of New York, and North Jersey’s own MMA competition powerhouse Extreme Fight Club out of West Paterson NJ, just to name a few.

Weigh-ins will be held at 5pm, doors open at 7pm, and the first bout is scheduled to start at 8pm. The full fight card can be viewed at www.mma.tv under events- Extreme Fight Challenge II.

Tickets for EFC: Extreme Fight Challenge II are priced at $100, $65, $35, not including applicable service charges, and go on sale Wednesday, March 16th at 10 a.m. ET.
