EVO MMA II January 24th Postponed

Jan 20, 2009
(PRESS RELEASE) -- To our regret the January 24th EVO show has been postponed due to a string of misfortune and tragedy with fighters. On Friday, January 16th only one week away from the weigh-in we were notified with in a three hour period that three fighters who were "main card" fighters, would not be able to fight for various reasons.

Alex Coronado, a 5-0 pro from Takedown Academy was involved in a near fatal accident and is in a state of coma with life threatening injuries. His 5 years son was killed in the accident and his 8 month pregnant wife was seriously injured. We had three other fighters from Takedown Academy who were on our card, one of them (Jose Cortez) was diagnosed just three weeks ago with lung cancer and is undergoing chemo-therapy.

One fighter received his blood results back and potentially has a serious medical condition that will end his fighting career.

In a bitter sweet event, Junior Assuncao was temporarily denied entry to the U.S. from his native home of Brazil and was in limbo. His opponent was Ben Henderson who is managed by Jason Genet at LG Sports Marketing. Ironically, Jason had an offer from the WEC to replace injured 155lb Ed Ratcliff for the January 25th card. When Jason was notified that Junior's visa issues put him in limbo status, he did what any good manager would do and with only a two hour window to decide, had Henderson sign with the WEC.

We would like to extend our personal sorrow for the grief and distress this causes all of the fighters who have trained so hard for our event. As soon as we get more information on the extended date of our event, we will keep you all apprised. Thank You and God Bless
