HAYWARD, Wis. -- A solid main event, a toss-up tournament finale and a stellar 4-man lightweight tourney are all being featured at Extreme Challenge 70 this Saturday night at the LCO Casino.
In the main event, UFC veteran
Brock Larson will take on
Edward O'Daniel. Larson has five straight victories since suffering his only loss to
Jon Fitch (Pictures) by decision in the UFC. O'Daniel opened his career with a win over veteran
Scott Henze and then pushed unbeaten
Chad Reiner in last month's Extreme Challenge 68 tourney.
"Larson is a solid wrestler with good submission skills, but O'Daniel is probably the better wrestler," said promoter Monte Cox. "Even though there is a big difference in experience (Larson is 18-1 and O'Daniel 3-1), it didn't seem to faze O'Daniel when he made his pro debut by beating Henze, who was like 16-5."
In the finale of an 8-man 170-pound tourney started at Extreme Challenge 68,
Chad Reiner (12-0) and Dustin Hazelett (8-2) will square off for the championship. Both earned two wins last month to advance to final.
"Both these guys are UFC quality... no doubt about it," Cox said. "You can find just as many people picking Reiner as are picking Hazelett... it's a true toss-up."
A 4-man lightweight tourney will feature a pair of young up-and-comers and a pair of successful veterans.
Clay French (7-0) and
Lee Gibson (4-0) will try to prove they belong with the more experienced
Justin James (Pictures) (11-5) and Alonso Martinez (13-9).
"We not only wanted to have good fighters for the tourney, we also wanted exciting fighters," Cox said. "These four guys have combined for 49 fights and only have one decision each... these guys finish people."
Tickets for the event are $35 in advance and $45 at the door... all seats are first-come, first-serve, including front row. To order, call LCO Casino at 1-800-LCO-CASH (1-800-526-2274) or direct at (715) 634-5643 and ask for the gift shop.
