GC "Best of the Best"

Apr 18, 2007
Sunday, May 20th, Gladiator Challenge returns to Eagle Mountain Casino with BEST OF THE BEST, an action packed fight card filled with the most exciting fighters in the sport. Returning to the home of mixed martial arts in central California, Gladiator Challenge assembles a fifteen fight card, including a four man Lightweight Tournament and a bout to decide the Gladiator Challenge Native American Heavyweight Champion. Don't miss the full contact cage fighting of Gladiator Challenge: BEST OF THE BEST.

In the main draw, four of central California's most talented lightweights square off in a winner-take-all tournament to decide who is the best of the best. They vie for a tournament belt and a #1 contender position for the vacant Gladiator Challenge Lightweight World Title.

John Reedy (John Reedy' class='LinkSilver'>Pictures) fights out of Team Voodoo in Turlock. A skilled wrestler now training with some of the best kickboxers in the sport, Reedy returns to the cage for the first time since knee surgery. His last bout was in September of '05 at Eagle Mountain Casino where he lost a hard-fought battle to fellow contender Brian Cobb (Pictures). Now fully rehabilitated from his injury and training with a new team, Reedy expects his new skills to make an indelible mark on the MMA scene in his return to the cage.

Brian Cobb (Pictures), a college wrestler from Bakersfield, is the most experienced participant in the tournament, just returning from a bout in Japan. Cobb's last appearance in Gladiator Challenge was last July in HELLSTORM where he defeated welterweight contender Bobby Suggs (Pictures) with a neck crank in a bad blood main event match up. An experienced wrestler with unflagging cardio and a solid chin, Cobb looks to take his career to the next level with this tournament win in Gladiator Challenge.

Darren Crisp (Pictures), fighting out of Visalia, faces off with Cobb in the first round of the tournament. Crisp, though possessing a solid ground game, would rather stand and bang. Crisp has finished opponents with submissions and strikes, and if he doesn't catch Cobb on the way in with strikes, he is still dangerous on the ground. After taking a year off for a recurring hand injury, Crisp is back at 100% and ready to kickstart his MMA career.

The final entrant in the four man tournament is the Cisco Kid - Francisco Magallon. Magallon drops down to lightweight for the first time in his fight career. In his last appearance at Eagle Mountain Casino, at Gladiator Challenge: HELLSTORM, the Cisco Kid won a TKO victory when his opponent was unable to answer the bell for the second round. With the drop to a lower weight class, look for the Cisco Kid to pack knockout power with his kickboxing skills.

Don't miss the action on Sunday May 20th, when the best of central California's warriors meet at Porterville's Eagle Mountain Casino for a night of ‘swing for the fences' cage fighting. Don't miss Gladiator Challenge, Simply the Best in Mixed Martial Arts. Gates open at 1:30pm and fights start at 3pm. For tickets, call Eagle Mountain Casino at (559) 788-6220.
