May 13, 2009
(PRESS RELEASE) -- ICFA announces MAYHEM, a mixed martial arts event to be held at Static Club in Columbus Ohio at 8:00 p.m. on May 22, 2009. The doors open at 7pm. The ICFA fight card will feature amateur athletes earning their rankings in the sport to eventually become the top professional names in MMA; MAYHEM will also have 3 bouts featuring professional fighters based in the Midwest.

The amateur main event at ICFA: MAYHEM features a Title fight defense for the ICFA Bantam Weight (135 lb) Title with Delaware’s powerful Aaron Hughes defending his title versus St Mary’s young submission specialist Sean Barnett. Aaron Hughes became a well know name in the sport during his last fight, for not only earning the ICFA bantam title but because he earned it by beating #1 ranked amateur Josh Robinson. He now has to defend his title against the 6’ 1” 18 year old prodigy Sean Barnett; that is destroying his competition with his superior guard game, where all of his wins have bee via submission.

The amateur co-main event at ICFA: MAYHEM will feature two fighters that recently lost an opportunity to win a title; Josh Miller versus Bryce Jackson. Josh Miller’s last bout was for the Middle weight title versus the current Champ Zach Woltz. Miller lost to a rear naked choke in the first round. Bryce Jackson’s last bout was against Matt Anderson for the Welter weight title were Jackson lost to a key lock arm bar in the first round. In this matchup on May 22nd Miller will drop from the Middle weight bracket and fight Jackson as a welterweight. This bout will be a true test to both fighters as they are both on the brink of becoming professional mma athletes.

The professional main event at ICFA: MAYHEM features the return of two ICFA heavyweights, but this time they are fighting as professionals not amateurs. We will see Kipp Cullen versus Corey Mullis. Kipp walked through his competition as an amateur where he was undefeated with a record of 5 wins and o losses prior to turning pro. For his professional debut he fought veteran TJ Finley and was able to defeat the veteran with a rear naked choke. Corey Mullis had a similar record as an amateur where he walked through his competition with an undefeated record until his last amateur match were he faced Steve Cotterman in ICFA 7. After a 3 round battle Cootterman won via a very controversial split decision. Since then Cotterman has been able to move on to the Bellator Fight organization. Mullis will be making his professional debut as the main event on May 22nd against the smashing wrestler Kipp Cullen.

The ICFA match makers have filled out the remainder of the fight card with a group of outstanding fighters from some of the best MMA gyms across Ohio including, Buckeye MMA, Nutter MMA, Summit MMA, Peak Submission, Premier MMA, and Martial Arts Alliance.
