Invincible Fighting Championship 3
I had high expectations this evening when I attended Invincible's
third installment of their cage fighting championship. After seeing
the first two events and seeing how it has grown from just those
two, I was eager to see what they were going to do next!
I walked into the arena and came face to face with a different world. I was swept up in a rush of emotions as I felt slightly stronger and empowered from being at this event. The cage in the center of the room dominated and demanded respect from all who laid eyes on it. The glowing logos and designs on the wall played with a person's vision and kept their eyes dancing from wall to wall. The lights gleaming from the ceiling illuminated the cage and drew the spectator in farther and farther. Warrior music was playing just loud enough to be heard over the crowd. The music was the finishing touch to an event that gave the feeling of watching a gladiator fight a lion at the Coliseum in ancient Rome.
I then saw a group of fight fans huddled tightly around a group of 4 easels where artists were painting scenes from the MMA world. JR Kierchbaum of JonDo.com and Harvest Productions were the ones to bring in the artists. Seven time world Kick Boxing champion, Peter Cunningham (who was in attendance for the show) was amazed by the idea of having artists paint the show live. He repeatedly came up with one word to describe it, "Classy". Leave it to Eddy Millis and Invincible to come up with another superb idea that will give the audience even more to see and do at the show.
The show then got started and it went off without a hitch. Each fight built up to the next one, and every fighter was evenly matched with his opponent with a great display of skill and precision. Even the debut fighters showed no signs of being beginners. The fighters were well prepared and showed a variety of technical skills. Many of the fighters rushed out from their corners and attempted to dominate their opponents. Several fights were on their way to victory only to have his opponent turn the fight around at the last second to deliver a choke or a submission. With many of the fights ending in the first round, the ring girls did not have much of a chance to strut around the ring. I could hear the crowd become restless about the lack of beautiful women entering the cage. But once they did, the crowd went wild at seeing Invincible's gorgeous ring girls.
Each fight had a different feel. Some fights featured strikers while others had ground and pound experts. One such ground expert was Bobby "The Kid" Sanchez. As he waited for the bell to ring, "The Kid" eyed his opponent, Kelvin Nimsiriruengphol and was ready for the take down. At the sound of the bell, "The Kid" leapt forward and shot for the legs of Kelvin. Down they went and with a few holds, a slam and reversals, Bobby "The Kid" Sanchez won due to a rear naked choke. Talking to "The Kid" after his match, I came to find out that a rear naked choke just happens to be his favorite move.
The highlight fight of the night was between Judo Champion Chuck Graves and pro-debut, Emre. Chuck charged into the arena with his head held high and an entourage at his heels. He stepped into the ring and paced back and forth waiting for his opponent. A hush fell over the crowd as Emre's video came on next, introducing the fighter. Obviously a local favorite, a roar broke out and the audience went wild for a fight that they knew would not disappoint. Emre came out from the fighter's entrance and walked calmly to the cage. His head covered by the hood of his sweatshirt and his eyes darting back and forth throughout the crowd. He seemed focused and ready. He too had an entourage hurrying to keep up to him. The bell sounded and both fighters came out swinging. Chuck threw a right cross and Emre reciprocated with a more accurate punch. It was all over from there. Emre felt a surge of power and completely dominated him from that point on. Fists flew and kicks were heard all the way to the back of the arena. Emre stayed standing for most of the fight, making sure the crowd got their money's worth. With one powerful strike to his opponent after another, Emre brought Chuck to the mat and had to be stopped by the referee in order to call the fight. It was called at 1 minute and 46 seconds into the first round by way of a knockout. The new fighter had proven himself to be a fierce competitor.
The semi main event came up as the 8th match of the evening. Ishmill Lett vs."Tall" Paul Karsky (Pictures). At 6'5", Karsky completely towered over the 5'10" Lett. Entering the arena, Lett showed pride in his country by proudly waving the American flag. The bell sounded and a few punches landed, but the match didn't stay upright. Quickly the two clinched and Karsky jumped guard. The fight went to the ground and the fighters scrambled to gain control. Karsky sank in a triangle choke, but Lett's Iron fist overwhelmed Karsky and he was KO'd on his back. I have rarely seen this type of punching power displayed as I did in this fight .The ref stopped the fight and declared the victory for Lett at 2 minutes and 16 seconds into the first round.
The main event for the evening was undefeated Jaime Fletcher (Pictures) versus Adam "Bomb" Lehman. In the interview, Adam stated his determination to break Jaime's record and Jaime made it very clear that this was his show and he wouldn't back down. The bell sounded and the crowd cheered as legs and fists flew through the air. Both fighters clinched and jockeyed for position. In the end, the undefeated Jaime Fletcher (Pictures), in a moment of ferocity, sank in a guillotine choke and submitted Lehman. Making it look easy, the undefeated Jaime added another win to his record.
All the fights of the evening were full of excitement. Whether the fighters were strikers like Emre or wrestlers like Bobby Sanchez (Pictures), each fight was non-stop heart pumping action. Invincible delivers in full when it comes to excitement, and I can't wait for Invincible 4!!
