KING OF CHAMPIONS WILL SEND AN MMA JOLT THROUGH COLORADO

Mar 19, 2009
(PRESS RELEASE) -- King of Champions today announced the complete card for its exciting mixed martial arts (MMA) event, “SHOCKWAVE 2009.” Headlining the card is former UFC bad boy Jesse “JT Money” Taylor (9-3), who will be fighting KOC Middleweight Champion Chris Camozzi (10-2) for the 185 lb. belt. In the co-main event, KOC Lightweight belt-holder Rocky Johnson (9-6) will tackle the challenge presented by Bryant Craven (8-4), who’s hungry to prove himself on a big MMA stage. Fight fans are not going to want to miss this exciting cage-fighting experience! On Saturday, March 28th, “SHOCKWAVE 2009” will hit Denver’s beautiful Crowne Plaza Event Center, located near Denver International Airport. Tickets can be purchased at http://www.kocmma.com/. A map to the Event Center is also available on the website.

In the main event of “SHOCKWAVE 2009,” former UFC fighter and TUF (The Ultimate Fighter) season 7 alum Jesse “JT Money” Taylor makes his King of Champions debut when he challenges middleweight champ Chris Camozzi. Sporting a record of 9-3 with all but two of his fights ending with a decisive finish, Taylor is one of MMA’s most exciting middleweight contenders, and also one of its most controversial. As most MMA fans remember, Taylor was set to face C.B. Dolloway at the TUF 7 Finale for a shot at a UFC contract when he was caught on security cameras carousing in Las Vegas. Taylor was summarily kicked off the show, the first participant ever dismissed after filming was completed. Though he was eventually brought back to the UFC, Taylor has since left and is looking to prove himself as one of MMA’s bright young stars. The KOC Middleweight strap would be another step in that direction, and Taylor intends on taking it home with him.

With similar height, weight, and experience, King of Champions Middleweight Champion Chris Camozzi will almost be staring in the mirror when he faces Taylor. Yet Camozzi hasn’t quite gotten the exposure Taylor has, and is looking to use this fight as a seal of legitimacy on his career. He is coming off a second-round submission in his last fight, and is looking to build momentum and prove that he belongs on the big stage of MMA.

In the co-main event of the evening, King of Champions lightweight kingpin Rocky Johnson will scrap with challenger Bryant Craven over the belt. Johnson has battled with some of the best lightweights in MMA, including UFC vet Alvin Robinson, WEC featherweight challenger Leonard Garcia, and StrikeForce Lightweight champ Josh Thomson. With seven tapout wins in his nine victories, this submission machine is looking to add Craven to his list of victims. Craven, meanwhile, is looking to take a big step up in competition. Having battled UFC vet Gideon Ray, and with eight submission wins on his record, Craven is targeting Johnson’s KOC lightweight belt next.

Also featured at “SHOCKWAVE 2009” will be two amateur MMA title fights, and nine other exciting bouts. Knock-out artist Josh Huber will battle Travis Sherman in Huber’s pro debut, and Joey Banks will take on Matt Vigil with the featherweight amateur belt at stake. Also fighting at this event will be rising stars Alfredo Corona, James Valmont, Ali Hanjani, and many others. With 13 total MMA fights on the card, King of Champions’ “SHOCKWAVE 2009” is sure to light up Denver!
