KOTC Gold Rush Results
Friday March 7th, 2008. Prince George, British Columbia
The tension was high as competitors weighed in on Thursday night. Emotion driven tempers flared and predicitons were made.
Ryan Knysh and Zack Gate began with what looked to be a short fight with Knysh taking down the taller Gate and landing several well placed punches opening up Zack early.
With great drive Gate was able to change the position around and gaining a top position, Knysh immediately countered with a triangle attempt which left a bloody gate no option but to slam his opponent in order to break free.
The second round began much like the first hitting the canvas quickly and the ground game swaying in favour numerous time before Gate was able to establish mount and earn a tko victory due to unanswered blows.
In the sixth fight Dan Shenk had a game plan in mind and nothing would deter him from completing it including a flush head kick from TKD star Jordan Boudreau. Shenk didnt even blink whent he kick landed, instead he grabbed Boudreau and took the fight to the ground circled to the back and sunk in a textbook rear naked choke to end the fight early.
Emotion poured from a man now known as The Enforcer. Rob Konopski made his feeling well known, shoving his opponent Scott Stewart at weighins. Claiming that he trains where he trains and fights where he fights Konopski clarified his stance within 13 seconds. After being tackled by referee Herb Dean (Pictures) Konopski roared and jumped up with an almost insane excitement. Which he quickly followed up by thanking Stewart for the match by kneeling and shaking hands. Although not to be misunderstood Konopski turned and called upon Karl "Freak" Ericson.
The first female fight in Prince George's history was nothing short of exciting. Both warriors stood toe to toe for an entire three rounds with Kate Roy of Prince Edward Island earning the W over Rachael Swatez.
Aaron Bruce took his fight against current welterweight champion Gary Wright on two weeks notice and definately came well prepared. In quite possibly the fight of the night both men showed why they are at the top of their division by trading punches, kicks and slams for an excruciating twenty five minutes. As the end of the fifth and final round came, both Bruce and Wright were showered by cheers and shouts from a very appreciative Prince George crowd and fellow fighters alike. Wright retained his title and thanked Bruce for his excellent performance.
