Kattar plans to finish off Montanez
(PRESS RELEASE) -- Hot mixed martial arts prospect Calvin “The
Boston Finisher” Kattar (7-1-0) plans to live-up to his nickname
and finish off Andrew “New York State of Mind” Montanez in Friday
night’s main event on the American Steel Cagefighting (ASC) show,
presented in association with the Icenter and Bellabance Beverage
of Nashua (NH), at the Icenter in Salem, New Hampshire.
The 21-year-old Kattar (7-1-0) takes on Montanez in a classic throw-down between contrasting style fighters – finisher and survivor – for the vacant NABC MMA East Coast lightweight title (155 lbs.) in the 5-round (5 minutes each) headliner.
Calvin was a wrestling star at Methuen High, who later took a break from college after one semester, realizing he missed the competition he had experienced from wrestling. After watching his sister’s friend, Dave George, in an MMA fight, Calvin immediately decided that he wanted to be an MMA fighter and now the Premier Martial Arts-based (Derry, NH) standout is already on the verge of capturing his first title belt.
“This show is a good stepping stone for me, something that motivates me because it’ll be my first title fight,” Kattar said. “I’m moving forward and upward each fight. Montanez, I hear, is a survivor. They call me ‘The Boston Finisher’ and I plan to do just that – finish him off! He’s a tough kid, a well-rounded fighter, but my game plan is to finish him off, hopefully, in the first round.
“Since I started fighting, I’ve always had a big crowd behind me. My first fight was nerve racking and so was my first main event. This time will be, too, at least at the start because I’m fighting in my first title fight. The crowd helps me, though, keeping me in a high intensity mode. He’s from New York with nobody there to root him on and nothing to lose. Which fighter implements his game plan will win. He wants to survive; I want to finish him off. My predictions’ the same: I always say I’m going to knockout my opponent in the first round. I will be looking to end it early.”
Former underground fighter Tyson “Psycho” Akl makes his mixed martial arts pro debut
Akl, fighting out of Salem (NH), battles middleweight Collin Schrader (1-0-0) on the special ASC event. Popular welterweight Doug “Flash” Gordon (10-7-0), winner of ASC’s main event fight July 31st at the Icenter, returns to fight Eric Henry (8-6-0) in the cage.
Also scheduled to fight on the ASC card is pro debuting fighters, Methuen middleweight James Quinlin vs. Fabrio Terra, featherweight Lamont Lister (6-8-0) vs. Jorge Bezerra (2-1-0), featherweight Kenny Foster (2-1-0) vs. Jose Adrianno (2-1-0).
Three amateur matches are also on tap. All pro and amateur fights and fighters are subject to change. Doors open at 6 PM, first fight at 8 PM.
Tickets, reduced and now priced at $75.00 (ringside), $60.00, $40.00 and $30.00, are available to purchase at the Icenter in Salem, New Hampshire (603.893.4448/info@the-icenter.com.)
